April 29, 2000, Troop 306 visited Peak Experiences Rock Gym in Richmond, Virginia.  From 9:00 p.m. until 7:00 a.m. new heights were reached as we scaled the many walls offered at the gym.  As the night turned to early morning a large majority of the group tried to go to sleep while “spider man”  (Thomas Burkett) checked out the walls from all directions.  All night long Thomas entertained everyone with his “Spider Man Stunt”.  Another thrill was the rapid drop off of the rope ladder.  Thomas Burkett  never stopped his climbing for anything. Those attending this adventure included Jeff Batakis, Christopher Bragg, Thomas Burkett, Wesley Kunkel, Chris Kunkel, T. J. Nehring.  Adults in attendance were Kathy and Mark Bragg, Kent Glover, John Michael McClain, John McClain (Scoutmaster) and Lily Nehring.  Troop tag a longs included Matthew Bragg, Ashely McClain and Deanna McClain.

The Aviation Merit badge was successfully completed by the following scouts:  style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal">Jeff Batakis, Christopher Bragg, Thomas Burkett, Brian Campbell, Francis Campbell, Matt Cimo and T. J. Nehring.  We worked on this merit badge with Troop 436 and the counselor was Capt. Tex Keuhlen.  As part of the merit badge, we learned about how planes fly, visited the airplanes at Oceana and also visited the Air Traffic Control tower and a radar plane at the Naval Air Station Norfolk.  We now have a good understanding of Bernouli’s Principle and how an airplane can fly.

STRAWBERRY FESTIVAL

Troop 306 again helped out at the Strawberry Festival  (May 29 – May 30, 2000) as a “fun” raiser.  We escorted vendors and helped with directing traffic for parking.  We also had to do a lot of “road repair” after the heavy rainfall left most of the parking areas all under mud.  Only in Pungo can our scouts work side by side with the Chief of Police in distributing sand in the muddy areas.  Those in attendance for this event included Jeff Batakis, Christopher Bragg, Thomas Burkett, Brian Campbell, Francis Campbell, Josh Crossen, Wesley Kunkel, and T. J. Nehring.  Adults in attendance included John Batakis (Police Auxillary), Kathy Bragg, Gary Burkett, Mark Campbell, Greg Mangum, John McClain and Lily Nehring.
